Extending Idea EAP in conjunction with MPS

Idea EAP, necessary for MPS EAP, expired in a few days. I have just 3 days more, while I am sure that I am willing to do some more experiments with MPS. Is there any way to extend it?

TIA

Always the same question, always the same answer: yes, there is a way.

Please take a look here: http://www.jetbrains.com/idea/buy/ :-)

Of course this is not very nice if you consider that I am here just to evaluate MPS, not Idea itself.

I agree.

What's JB position on this point?

I'm afraid you have to get used to people implying that somehow you're some sort of thief or freeloading pirate every time you ask about an expired EAP key...

Well, there is a problem. If you would get a EAP key for IDEA to run MPS,

you will be able to use IDEA without limitations. Maybe Jetbrains should

make MPS a stand-alone tool (which uses IDEA's core but does not offer IDEAs

UI) or provide a MPS-only EAP license which limits IDEA to MPS usage (though

surely hard to ensure).

Maybe Jetbrains should make MPS a stand-alone tool

This would be the "free PluginContainer license".

It makes sense, especially when you think about Visual Fabrique.

Dear Thomas,

If you buy IntelliJ IDEA you get version 4.5, is this compatible with MPS ?

If it's not compatible, can you run Irida with 4.5 license ?

Thanks.

IntelliJ IDEA 4.5 isn't compatible with MPSPlugin, but as far as i know

you can use 4.5 license with Irida EAP.

That is understandable, but I am here with my name and my own reputation, FWIW. And I think that my question is legitimate:

*) MPS is not production ready, nor it will be for months at least, right?

*) Idea IS a great product, no question about that but...

*) MPS is not really usable without Idea

Therefore, how do I make some experience or follow MPS evolution without the need to buy an Idea license? I may be wrong, but I thinkg that it would not be really fair to force somebody to buy an Idea license just for MPS evaluation.

Cheers,

Giuliano

I think that "an MPS-only EAP license which limits IDEA to MPS usage" would be the easiest solution. I am open to alternatives, of course.

Is it possible to have an official answer from JetBrains?

Thanks

The Irida EAP is still in progress, so EAP licenses will be renewed at

http://intellij.net/eap/products/idea/download.jsp. When the Irida EAP

is over, we will of course have some way that you can still use MPS.

Can somebody from JetBrains please renew Irida EAP? I guess that tomorrow it will be over...

Thanks

I wanted to try MPS and i couldnt since there is no license key anymore at the IRIDA download page.

I dont think that this is really fair, since in order to get something back, first of all You should give something. And i believe that JetBrains want to get feedback from the community .

Moreover, i am a student and i dont feel like i want to spend $99 just to try out MPS and perhaps try to apply or extend ideas behind it as a part of the research at university.
