Next MPS version?

Hi,

a question to MPS team, when are you going to release the next MPS version. On your homepage it says Q1 2010 but we already are in Q2, so what is your schedule?

Best reagards,

Harry

Harry,

I think nobody can tell exactly but now we plan a release at the beginning of the summer.

Thanks for your attention :-)

I'm very excited about the MPS idea. I'd appreciate some real world examples solving a "Hello World" problem/issue using the Google App Engine or Google Web Toolkit framework.

Is it possible to extend MPS insofar that it generates Scala code and not only Java code?

Alexander,

Sure you can generate code on any language.

To do that you need to describe at least its structure in terms of MPS and write textgens for its concepts. It can be done in 1.1.

The main problem with 1.1 is that we don't have a DSL for creating stub models for languages. So you'll be unable to use standard libraries. This situation will be improved in 1.2, where a specific aspect will be created for stub models. In 1.1 the possible solution is to write these stub models "by hand".

As for support of Scala, we don't have plans of implementing the language here in MPS.

Regards,

Mihail

Hi to MPS team,

So now it is hot summer,

what is your latest schedule for version 1.2?

Are you going to start a (public) EAP in the next weeks?

I saw at Markus Völter's MPS project site that he uses an EAP version for his code.

(Unfortunatelly, trying out his MPS code did not work with MPS 1.1 because of that)

Thanks & best regards

Harry

Hi, Harry!

We are going to release MPS 1.5 in a couple of weeks. It's too late for EAP program (sorry) but you can download MPS 1.5 RC builds from here: http://confluence.jetbrains.net/display/MPS/JetBrains+MPS+1.5+RC+Download+Page

Latest RC should be much more stable then EAP builds :-).

Hi Alex,

yes, that is good news, more than I expected.

Thanks a lot, have been looking forward to it.

But you should also announce it somewhere on your website, otherwise users might not find it.

Best regards,

Harry
